The Phantom of the Opera Information:
The Phantom of the Opera is a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on the novel by French novelist Gaston Leroux. The music was composed by Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Charles Hart and additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe directed by Harold Prince, choreographed by Gillian Lynne, lighting by Andrew Bridge and designed by Maria Bjornson.
Inspired by an earlier musical version of the same story by Ken Hill, "Phantom" opened at Her Majesty's Theatre in London on October 9, 1986, where it is still playing and celebrated its 21st anniversary on October 9, 2007 along with its 8,736th performance. The original cast included Michael Crawford (the Phantom), Sarah Brightman (Christine), and Steve Barton (Raoul), all of whom reprised their roles in the Broadway production at the Majestic Theatre. It is now the second-longest-running West End musical of all time, behind Les Miserables, and the longest-running Broadway musical of all time, breaking the record held by Lloyd Webber's Cats on January 9, 2006 with its 7,486th performance.
Peace Center Information:
The Peace Center is located adjacent to Falls Park in downtown Greenville, South Carolina. It is an arts center that contains the 2100 seat Peace Concert Hall, 400 seat Dorothy Hipp Gunter Theater, and the Dow Brands Amphitheater located beside the Reedy River. It hosts over 300 events each year, including classical music, Broadway shows and appearances by popular artists such as Bill Cosby and David Copperfield. There are four resident companies: The Greenville Symphony, Carolina Ballet Theater, South Carolina Children's Theater, and the International Ballet.
The Peace Center is named after the local Peace family who donated $10 million towards its development. The center was opened in 1990 and is built on the former site of three dilapidated factories - one building wagons for the Confederate Army, a textile plant built in the 1880s, and a building serving as the home for Duke Mayonnaise.
